Hello all - I haven't started a Lady E yet, but I'm thinking about it and have a question.  Do you line these suckers?  What do the backs look like?

No you don't line them, in fact the book itself talks about that. The back has hems and whatnot the book claims you could wear it with the wrongside out showing a more "rustic face" or something along those lines. Heres a pic I found to give you an idea...

As SlickMariaVic said, you do not line Lady E. The "wrong" side actually creates a very, very nifty rustic looking texture. I think my mother liked the wrong side more than the right side, lol.

That being said though, Lady E is certainly the type of project that you *could* line if you wanted. You basically knit up a huge rectangle so it'd be relatively easy to sew a backing on. The only thing a backing would do -- IMHO -- is that it would limit Lady E to only being a shawl. Right now you can drape her over your shoulders our kinda scrunch her up as a scarf. I think if you lined it it would be far too bulky to use as a scarf. But it'd be a lot warmer as a shawl. So it just depends on what you're looking for. Smiley

Okay, here it is:

I am so very pleased.  I think this is easily the most beautiful thing that I have knit.  To recap, it's Noro Silk Garden #243 with most of the teal cut out.  I knit 39 tiers + the beginning and ending tier and used up nearly 9 balls of yarn, but would have used quite a bit less if I had left in the teal. I steam blocked it and it turned out nearly my exact wingspan of 63", which I think is perfect for us shorties.  I just put on a regular fringe rather than the fancy one in the book and it looks great.  This is a Christmas gift for my mother and I think she'll love it.

Sorry the picture's so small.  I have a better picture in my flickr knitting set:

but I can't figure out if you can post from flickr here.  Does anybody know if that works?

So canarysanctuary, did I win the fringe race?

Wootwoot Beautiful! That turned out great -- I love the colorway and I like the fringe you did. In fact, I think I like it a little better than the fringe the pattern suggests. I too can see why you cut out the teal, the colors are so earthy like that. Great job!

wootwoot, that is gorgeous.  I love it.  Very good decision to cut out the teal.  There are many a noro skeins wherein there's one colour that prevents me from buying it!  I think I'll do like you next time, and just cut it out!
