I wanted to make a hat for my brother's birthday this year b/c winter is approaching and he has to wait for the bus in the cold.... sad!  I thought it would be cool to make him something that he could toss in his bookbag and just wear to and from school to keep his cute little head warm.  I got a great pattern called Flappy (http://www.crochetme.com/flappy) from crochetme.com, and modified it to make it a little more manly (no ear flaps or pigtails).  It's knit from some kind of cotton-acrylic so it's not especially soft, but it is very tightly crocheted and should keep him pretty dang warm.  Here are some pictures of it on him.... sorry he looks so silly in that face one.  He's usually much more.... not doofy looking, haha

That's really good. I was wondering what the flappy would look like in a different color and I lik eyours. Oh, and I can't help it cause I'm a dork, but your brother looks like draco malfoy with the blond hair and green hat lol

That looks really good (and your brother looks sweet - bet he doesn't want to hear that!). It's always nice to see good masculine hats, great colour choice too.

I've heard it both ways.

I'm looking to swap some knit &/or crocheted crafts for handmade CP/HP soap.

Great Job on the hat, love how you made it masculine!  My son would love one just like it.  I bet your brother will be really glad you made him the hat when it gets cold!

Aw, y'all, thanks for all the sweet comments.... I am happy with how it turned out, even though it only vaguely resembles flappy.

I picked the green just b/c green is his favorite color.   It's a cool color, I just wish I had more of the stuff laying around so I could make some more stuff with it!

I used the little itty bitty hook that the pattern called for, that's why it's so tight (not to mention, that's just how I roll lol).

The cool thing about flappy is that you can make that little brim band by itself (it's sewn on afterwards) and wear it as a headband that looks pretty dang snazzy.  I feel one coming on Smiley
