Is it just me? I have a split rung plier, and i got it to work with the sterling silver split rings to open them far enough for me to slide the clasps on, but when I try to use it with my non-sterling splits, I can't get them to spread far enough apart or get the clasps on them.

I'm thinking it's a possibility of a few things:

The metal around the hole on the clasp is too thick

The non-sterling sliver split rings don't have as much "give" in them as the sterling ones

My split ring plier only will work with Sterling Silver items.

Is there another type of split ring plier that will work with the tougher ones?

I use my split ring pliers for all metals.  I do find with heavier gauge I have to do some extra manipulating.  I use the split ring pliers to open and hold the split ring and then use a needle tool to open it a bit wider to get what ever it is I am putting on the split ring.  Hope my description makes sense.
