For those of you following my progress, I washed, pressed, designed and cut today!  BUT, when I got to the center section, the white floral looked all wrong!  I decided not to use it.  It will probably just be the polka dots instead. I will update with a photo when I get it finished!
Thanks for your input!

Oh I am sure she will love it!

Remember you are the quilter and have a practical, experienced opinion that she may not have.

I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Okay, I laughed out loud at this, because I am rarely practical, and totally inexperienced!
It is going well though, I will update with photos in a bit.  The whole front is pieced and sewn, I just have to machine stitch the back, front and batting together!

I am working on the wall-pocket thingy now, and am debating whether I need 1 or 2 layers of heavyweight interfacing.
Opinions?

Okay, thanks to all for opinions, support, tips, and general interest in my BIG baby gift project.  It's 3:30pm Friday, and I have until 10:30am in the morning til I have to walk out the door to the baby shower. I think I'm okay on time!
Here's what is done:

The front of the quilt, all sewn!  I made the design up as I went along.  It's 40x50inches.
The back will be solid of the polka dot fabric!

I am waiting to machine quilt it tonight at my mom's house; her machine has decorative stitches and is much better quality than mine.

AND, a wall pocket organizer!  (Also of my own design/imagination):

And, action shot for those of you who want to see size/functionality:

Being my first major projects on my own, I am darn proud of myself!  I think I have officially graduated from newbie sewer to self-taught novice!  I know it isnt all perfect, but it is GOOD, and that is the point.  Enough jabbering, what do you think?

Thanks again for feedback!

EDIT to add: I think it's hilarious, I just noticed my daughter did what your cats all do...snuck into the pics!  See tiny foot in pic 1, and tiny hand in pic 2!  CAMERA hog!

I love it!  It is even better than I had pictured in my head.  Lucky lucky mom and baby! The pocket organizer rocks too, the pockets look to be the perfect size.

You did an awesome job!

I love it!  It looks great.  The red and white polka dots are fantastic for a baby quilt.  Newborns love high contrast.

You guys are funny!  No, I really only have 2 arms, and they juggle my 3 year old and 11 month old (currently throwing cheerios off his high chair) most of the time, I craft AROUND them!  I also don't have a job (outside of mommy) so I can create stuff off and on from 8am-1am!
I'm a bit manic as well, so that helps!
CONFESSIONS: Also, I have 6 loads of laundry that are washed, but not put away, a sick full of dirty dishes, no current dinner plans, no shower in 48 hours, and my carpet needs to be rid of thread/crumbs.  So there, see, I sacrificed housekeeping for crafting!
