First - let me appologize if this is either the wrong area to post, or completely inappropriate...

From my incurable habit of ephemera collecting I have several vintage knitting magazines - dating from the 40's through the 60's - with AMAZING patterns - just about every kind of item - skirts, shawls, sweaters - the usual suspects - and even some *super* cute hats - I think I even have some pretty hot patterns for the gents (early 60's mostly) - if you are a vintage fashion whore like me, you will no doubt dig these.

But here's my problem - I don't knit!

I would be happy to scan some for those who might be interested - doubly so if some brave soul were to maybe construct one of the lovely hats in exchange? PM me if this is of interest - I'm happy to share regardless -  it breaks my heart to see these beauties go to waste.....

Do you crochet?  I can trade some vintage crochet patterns for knitting ones.  Smiley

i'd love to see the patterns

i dont know about knitting a hat in return
(1) since i havent seen the patterns i dont know that i can
(2) knitting (for me) takes a damn long while...

maybe somebody else can contribute the time and yarn so we can all enjoy the patterns Smiley

I'm trying to fgure out the best way to do this... I certainly don't expect anyone to go through all of the effort to craft something in exchange for one scan - especially site unseen! But really they are too cure to go unused (I love the images alone and still couldn't bring myself to cut them up for collage).

While I mull this over, if anyone has specific interests (like I was thinking hats to start), pm me and maybe I can just start from there.

Lothruin: I don't crochet either (eviently I have much to learn!) - but holler if you are interested in something (I may have some crochet patterns too..._

maybe you could scan some of the pictures and post them over in a thread in the Museum of Craft section?  That way people could see what you've got and ask for specific patterns possibly in exchange for some labor.

The problem with old knitting patterns is that the yarn called for usually doesn't exist anymore, and they often don't include gauge info.  But I'm sure there are some adventurous souls who'd love the challenge anyway!

I also picked up some old knitting stuff 40s-60s - including a pattern for hat and gloves in leopard print! at my library's sale
I'd love to post but don't have a scanner.

Right there with you Melidomi.

I think I'm going to scan some images, and then set up a page folks can go to to check it out.

you gotta love library sales (and yard sales) for this kind of thing....
thanks for the input everyone - I'll update soon...
