    Your cat is too cute.
To change the pillows in a real low budget way.. you could take Tshirts, funky ones or plain ones and sew up the neck and arms for pillow cases. You might even be able to find some cop or security shirts at your local thrift store. Those would make cool pillow cases as well.

I noticed you like Rent and I have a really cool and cheap way to decorate walls: make your own posters out of posterboard and paint. You can either use spray paint (be careful it stinks and takes a few days to dry) or cheap crafting acrylic paint that you can find at dollar and craft stores. The Rent logo is easy to do if you've never painted before.

Basically what you do is make a background on the posterboard using whatever paint effects for can pull off or just paint it a plain colour.

Then you can either freehand a logo on top or make a huge stencil. The huge stencils can be done on any large paper, the stiffer the better. Basically all you do is draw the logo really big. Even if it's off, people that don't stare at the logo 24/7 won't really notice and they'll be really impressed that you make it yourself.

Firstly get rid of as much unnessecary stuff as possible, or work out a storage solution for them.

Put the bed lengthways along the interior wall.  You could either use the little nook as a hangout, hidey hole area or set up your desk in there.  If it is a hangout area, put some comfy chairs in there (if at all possible hide the boxes and stuff behind them) and put a heavy curtain across the opening so you can close it off a bit when it's not being used to help keep the heat in the area being used.
