Is it possible to preserve a Jack-o-Lantern? Like coat it in shellac or something?

After I carve out the faces, I put Vaseline on the cuts. I also put my jack-o-lanterns in the fridge during the day and display them all lit up at night.

And for an emergency and the pumpkin looks beyond repairable and shriveled, I fill up a big bucket with water and leave the pumpkin submerged for a few hours, it comes out looking new and fresh.

Good tips! But I think she was talking long term...like to keep and use again? That's what I was thinking.

In terms of short term freshness, I find keeping it in the fridge and sprayed with water works well too

*Ahem* I think you mean he. Other than that, you're right. I was looking for long-term solutions. Given some thought and an extensive google search, I don't think its really plausible to save a Jack-o-Lantern for more than a week or so.

Whooops!! my bad sir! I knew I should have checked to be sure when I wrote that :p

She left a link (in the word here) to the design she based hers off of. I'm not sure what these guys are either-but they are cute. ;-)

Navi is Link's helper fairy in the Legend of Zelda.  (more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Ocarina_of_Time_characters#Navi)  I think that this particular version, with the rounded wings, is from Wind Waker.

*edited to fix link

Definitely my favorite one yet.  Is that line an umbilical cord?  Awesome!

I did it free hand. Just me and a magic marker, and an exact-o-blade.

Triforce (husband's):
Navi (mine, design from here):
Somehow I think it's mildly unfair that he picked an easy design, while mine took way longer.  *pout*   Grin

Those are great!
I'm such a huge Zelda nerd.
My 2 Zelda tattoos are actually the triforce and Navi (one on each wrist, seen here - http://webpages.charter.net/haginsdm/zeldatattooz.jpg)

Woah, sweet!  If I got a tatoo, it would probably be something nerdy like that.   Smiley
