I saved her file as a jpeg, then went to Paint Shop Pro 5 and used the color replacement tool to switch out the colors, instead of filling in block by block. It was very easy!

You can definitely do it in Photoshop.  A few suggestions on easy ways to do it - you can copy one of the charts people have posted here and sub out the colors.  Or you can make a graph in Photoshop and fill in colors by hand.  This tutorial is technically for making a totally new chart using a file in your computer, but the graph instructions work for any chart.

I will take more photos soon - it's so hard to take pretty WIP shots!

Am really happy with it so far and I'm certainly getting faster as I go (this is pretty much my first fair isle project).

If you stay in excel you can customize your colors by hitting "modify" under the "colors" tab (under "preferences" on a mac or "tools:options" on a pc).  I just filled out the chart using the top row of standard colors from the palette, and then tweaked them accordingly.

You can also create a chart in Word.  You can create your own colors as well.  Its really easy.  Just open a new Word document.  Under Table go to Insert Table.  Decide on the number of columns and rows.  There is a paint tool that you can use to fill in the color that has customizable colors.

I know that you can do it in Excel, but that program just gives me bad work flashbacks.

I really wish a LYS here in Los Angeles carried the Spindrift. It would be really helpful to see it in person, because I was thinking of switching out some of the colors.  I tried the graph paper/colored markers route, but I think I am just a dork and can't seem to envision all those colors.  I was hoping for something with some purple/brown type of combo or maybe a raspberry/green/brown.....I don't know, just something different, but what if I find the perfect combo of TEN colors and then can't match them up with the right gauge of yarn???  I probably should just play it safe and go with the colors suggested.  It would be nice if a yarn store that carried the Spindrift put together some kits in alternate colors.  I would be all over that in a heartbeat.

I got my Palette in today, but I think one of the pinks may be a little bright. The other colors are all great, so if the pink doesn't work, I'll only have to replace it.
