You can hardly tell.  I realized when I first started making these pincushions that I thought mine were really f-ed up, and everyone else's were totally round and perfect.  Then I realized I just wasn't looking at theirs through a microscope, and mine were just fine.  And anyway, it's a pincushion.  That's the fun...just for you, or your sewing friends...or everyone you know if you're me.  I gave them as Christmas gifts with safety pins on them so you could pin them to your coat.  And some of my friends actually did.

Hi - love all of the pincushions and will be trying a few of my own.  I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere in this thread that someone had identified a source for the grains that you can fill a pincushion with that keeps the pins sharp... but now I can't find it and the search function is down, so if any one could point me to that post I'd really appreciate it.

thx

I actually don't remember seeing the source in this thread, but I saw it somewhere on here. Here is a link for where you can order "emery sand": http://www.thecalicocat.com/patterns-pincushions.htm

I haven't used it, but it seems like it would work well.

This one I gave to a friend who is not from Texas, so, I used some fabric with Bluebonnets on it.  The back is vintage chenille.

Thank you!

And I LOVE the square pincushions!  One of those is next on my list!

Marleah-thanks for that link!  I browsed through it for a while, and I really like it!  I just don't know if I should just go ahead and buy the patterns for the pincushions, or just go ahead and try it myself.  Well, I'll probably just try it myself and it comes out horribly, then I'll get the pattern!

So, I tried my hand at making a pincushion too. As it was getting pretty crazy, I decided to hold off on putting on the buttons. I'm not even sure what good a button is for on a pincushion? *laughs* Anyhow, as soon as I saw this pattern I just had to try it!

I'll probably make some more later, now that I think I've finally figured out the hang of it! It got to be a challenge keeping my puppy from wanting to chew on it- I really had to hide it from her. (Please excuse the earring hanging out there. *smile*)
