I just finished my Halloween costume for this year, I'm going as Meriadoc Brandybuck, a hobbit from Lord of the Rings. I managed to find (and recon) the shirt, pants, suspenders and coat at the thrift store.  The vest and cloak were made from scratch, and the rucksack is from target (but I beat it up a bit to make it look travel stained).

I got the pattern for the cloak from www.alleycatscratch.com, and I couldn't have sewed the hood onto the cloak without it.

Here's a picture of the whole costume (ignore the fact that my hair isn't curly and my feet aren't hairy):

Shot of the back:

close-up of the rucksack:

My bottle of hobbit booze:

My pipe (got it off of ebay) and tobacco pouch (made it myself):

Action shot of the pipe (not really, I don;t smoke):

Action shot of my hooded cloak:

Sorry for the amount of pictures, I'm just really excited about my costume.

Great job on your costume!  I love the details, especially the pipe & the Old Vinyard.   Grin

My family are huge LOTR fans, too.  I've made the cloak from www.alleycatscratch.com when my son was Frodo.  He got double use out of that one because he insisted on being Pippin the next year.  Same thing on the hobbit feet, I made out of muslin & faux fur.

Frodo

Again you did a really great job!!!  Grin

Thanks  Cheesy  He loved the Pippin costume and practiced his Scottish accent continually, which was really fun.  I can't even tell you how much making hobbit feet made me giggle!  Look forward to more pictures!

Yay, Merry! This is fantastic! The cape is so nice and shiny! And SO BLUE. (sorry. i like blue. i like shiny.)

Your accessories are pretty rad, too--the pipe is a fabulous shape. I seriously dig the beat up ruckstack, as well.

And, just, SQUEE--you are actually wearing a vest. Faboo!

Did you just buy the cloak-claspy-pin thing somewhere, then?

LOVE it!!!

My son was 1 month old a few years ago for Halloween so we went as Aragorn, Arwen and Frodo.  I pulled out a Reniesance costume I had and reconed a black shirt for my husband.  My son wore overalls that I added patches to and a pocket where I pinned a ring on a chain.  I made him a cute little hat and a cape and of course he wore no shoes (it was an indoors party).  He was so cute!  It wasn't as authentic as yours though (although he couldn't have even held a pipe).

Great job!

Oh, lucky!!  The first thing I'm doing once the sewing machine gets fixed is like, some sort of LoTR dress/vest/cape.  I love the liquor bottle.. looks deadly cool.  I'd probably bring it to class as a water bottle,  Grin

Plus, you look like such a cutie it the picture with the hood on! I love people who make Halloween so much fun!
