I have to try this, but I want metal clasps first, cos an 8 strap garterbelt just doesnt deserve plastic ones.  I'm also trying to make the changeover to stockings, but having trouble finding stockings that fit and a decent garterbelt (I have one on order from fineform, the only satin garterbelt I could find with metal clips) and I can't find a single one with more than 4 clips.

Actually, for you stockingwearers out there, is there a way to get the silicone strips out of holdups?  I have a pair that just aren't tight enough to stay up and the (admittedly plastic) clips on the garterbelt I do have last all of about 5 mins on them before at least half of them come undone, and I have a sneaking suspicion the only other brand they make small enough and is available in my town also won't fit as they seem wider in the top than the other pair.

Can someone post a close-up picture of what the garter clips look like?

I'm curious because I found a possible (cheap) alternative...

I ran across these things called "ironing board cover fasteners" in the Dollar Tree today and thought the clippy bits at the end might be usable.  I was planning on cutting them in half, so you'd get two garters out of each tie-thingy.  How do you think these would work?

Sort of hard to explain... so I took some pics.

The package:

Wow this is awesome! Im going to have to make myself a pair. And I have some red lace that is just right to do the trick..... and some black for a second pair.... and brown too.  I knew stocking up on wide stretch laces would come in useful! Now just to find the clips....

Jillie

How odd youd ask.I use sets I got from DT as garter clips. It works well as long as you make sure to have something for the clippy to clip to.They will shred your stockings if not.

Jillie, those should work well (probably better than plastic clips actually).

For those of you in who have access to a Spotlight store, I found some chunky metal clasps in the same section as the bra supplies.  They were about $9 a pair and I'll let you all know how they go when I do mine (hopefully this weekend) though I only got 4 clips this time round (I was already spending enough), if I'm happy with the hold I will fork out the extra for another lot and make a second belt from stretch satin.
