I was in a Waldorf store the other day with my five year old son and he totally fell for a felted apple that had a hole in it with a wee felted mousy inside. He cried when we left without it but it was over $40 and, even though i thought it was alright i knew i could make one just as cute, at least!
He picked out the colours himself and decided that he wanted a worm as well so here it is:

Hope you like it! No pattern, of course, and no pics of progress either 'cause i made most of it on the bus today, the apple i did at home tonight. Not bad for a one day project, and just in time for "sharing day" tomorrow at school  Wink

Oooooh...NICE! I'd love something like that, but the pieces would get lost or the pets would have a party with it Sad

It's wonderful that not only did you save money, but you taught your son the concept of making instead of buying.  I also think it's great that you included him in the decision making process.  I'm sure this toy will mean much more to him in the future than a store bought one ever would.  Kudos for wonderful child rearing techniques (and saving money!).

P.S.--I love the finished product, by the way.  I just got too excited about good parenting to mention it    Cheesy

hee hee, thanks!
i get pretty excited about good parenting too, i try to hand make as much as i can and get him into it as well. he loves taking care of the plants and to help in the kitchen, dishes and everything, and the vacuum is his favourite toy somedays. he's a little angel (mostly), i love making stuff for him! i really enjoyed making this toy, i put it in his room where he'll see it first thing in the morning. i can't wait for that! he takes pretty good care of his things so i think all the pieces will be ok and stick together.
i can't wait for morning!

ha! i waited for as long as i could to check him out in his room this morning, i didn't want to wake him up if he was still sleeping but it was getting on so... i went in there to rouse him only to discover that he was Wide awake, under the covers with a flashlight playing with his new toys! he can't get over them at all, it's love. so nice. so worth the effort.
think i'll make him somthing else today.....

I would love to get one of those to play with and I'm 32, so I'm guessing a smaller kid would possibly love it even more!
BEAUTIFUL!

Edited to add: Gosh, I can't take my eyes off it, just have to say: The worm looks absolutely wicked (I like the worm better than the mouse - and the mouse is extremely cute too)!! Love at first sight!
