I have hardly any graphic design experience, and I'd like to make a banner for my web site.  Are there any programs you'd recommend?  I downloaded Fireworks, which seems to be a really good one; I've been playing around with it.  But there's so much I don't know how to do yet!  Any suggestions for resources for learning these things would be much appreciated.

I really want a banner with some little pictures of my jewelry, and my store name, and not much else.  Thing is, I'm not quite sure what I should do with the background (or how to do anything besides making it just a solid color--how blah).

Or maybe I should come up with a logo?  But I don't know how to make one!  I'd love to have a cute little cow or something that resembles what I make, in a little computer graphic-y version (maybe even animated).  Maybe I'm getting in over my head here.  But I love to learn how to do these things.

Help?

i know diddly about the how-tos, but i've been googling for "animated clip art" and have seen several sites for free downloads-even a cute cow or two.  and if wallpapers can be used as web page background, i've seen those, too.
not real helpful, but i'll be reading along with you to see what others have to say.

if you don't fing a cow, let me know and i'll try to find it again.

mmmmmoooooo....
