I don't know if this is the situation across the board with Michaels, but I had an "interesting" experience there earlier this week (in Calgary).  I had been waiting for the "sale" to buy some Patons SWS and had priced it out a couple of weeks ago.  It was $5.99/each.  I figured it would go down to under $5 on sale.  I went in on Monday and the sale signs for SWS read "$6.99" and it was "on sale" for $6.  I couldn't believe it.  The actual price stickers on the shelving had been torn off, but in places there was enough of the original label left to see the "$5...".  I was debating what to do and whether it was worth asking about when I noticed a sign down at the bottom that read "Patons SWS.  Regular Price $5.99.  Sale Price $4.97".  The date on that sale sign was October 6, 2006.  I found an employee and asked about it and they gave me the $4.97 each for the SWS I was buying.  I also have a sale flyer from last week that lists the SWS as regular price $5.99.

I am going to write to Michaels customer service and ask about this, but I thought I'd mention it, in case anyone else sees the same issue.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.  I have got to stop doing that!

if you can't be a good example then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

Also (if you have the time and the patience) Jo-Ann is having a 50% off one item sale, but the coupons are online and in their flyer.  You could go multiple times and get yarn.  Wink

I echo everyone elses reply...patons classic merino is the most wonderful, , and cuddly yarn. Michaels has it on sale as I also believe was mentioned...and at least in this area, they have it for less than anyone else, everyday.

I am hijacking your hijack.
Seems Michaels has some problems with communication.
They sent out requests to members of TKGA to volenteer to teach people to knit for the benefit of Warm Up America.
I volenteered and had a time set to go..all arranged with their yarn buyer in their coporate office.
Well..in reality..the ladies in the store had no idea this event was suppose to be taking place. In fact they had some other knitting event going on!
I was graciously invited to sit in with the other knitters already there, and had a great time.
But obviously...the right hand isn't talking to the left hand.
Now I appologize for hijacking.

My visit to Michaels was not so good. They only have ugly colors left (strange blues and greens) and they have it priced at 4.99 not showing the previous price.

The Michael's sale this week is supposed to include nearly all of their yarn, with prices either $2, $3, or $4. You can check the ad from their website.  The yarn sale is on the last page.

When I was there, a girl was filling a display with Lion Wool that had a different label design on it.  I think it was tan with black lettering.  Has anyone used  Lion Wool before?  What is your opinion of it?  It was priced the same as Paton's Merino.

Mistake?  No... it's an Unexpected Design Element.  I put it there on purpose.  *ahem*

Try www.discountyarnsale.com

They sell yarn in packs of 10 skeins.  I recently purchased some Plymouth Galway and even with shipping I saved a ton of money.  It says that it takes 2-3 weeks to ship...but I placed my order on the 8th and it's supposed to arrive tomorrow (so 12 days total).

With my purchase, I saved enough money buying in bulk that I essentially got 10 skeins for the price of 8, even with the price of shipping averaged in.

I hope that helps!
