Another F-ing Clock.

I will probably fill those holes with a switch and a small light if I can keep it small enough.
In what SHOULD have been a 10 minute project (meshing a dollar store clock with this 1958 photo process timer) I managed to take several hours. The face was much harder than I expected to remove. Two grinder wheels, a dremel, and the pictured snips were all required.


As a bonus, the original clock frame had this brick texture going around it, begging to be turned into something Mario Bros. related.

I'm thinking of making a clock for my dad out of a hubcap using a cheap wall clock. What advise would you give to someone undertaking that project, learning what you did from this project?

I would get a dollar store or goodwill clock to start with. If you pay more than 2 American dollars for a working clock, you've been jacked.

Second: If you want to make a clock from a hubcap, drill a hole in the center, take the hands off the clock, throw it in through the hole you just drilled, reaply the hands (and/or the nut you took off to get the clock off its face).

Third: Any time metal is involved. It NEVER hurts to have lots of tools involved. I try to keep my tool box at a minimum, but there are SO many projects that call for that one special tool you may not have. Dremels, grinders, etc. Go to a department or hardware sore and get an angle grinder. Seriously. I've made machetes off this purchase. Get a cutting and a grinding wheel.

Thanks for the link, that site looks really cool! However, for this project, I'm going to take Fiasco's advise and buy a cheap-o clock and use the mechanisms.  But that site kicks ass and I already have an idea for another project just by looking at it! Thanks for the tip!
