superhero costume for friday

so... i work at a rock climbing gym, and we're having a halloween competition/ costume party this friday. the winner of the staff costume contest gets a day off with pay, and i really want to win!

i think i'm going to dress as a superhero, but i need help fashioning a costume. i have green striped capri leggings i'll probably wear, but i need help for on top.

any suggestions? i have a basic sewing machine, but i'm fairly new to sewing. i don't want to just do leggings - tshirt - cape. i know i have some tough competition ahead of me, and i need to astound people.

I would start with a basic sketch of what you'd like the costume to look, and then use clothes you already have as a stencil for making a new patern.  Its not as hard as it might sound.

Perhaps make an armored top so it's not so bland looking.. soft foam that's quilted in some places can make pretty convincing plate metal.

wear a harness. and your underwear on the outside and the leggings and a cape.
can't go wrong with a mask.
everyone loves a mask.
and like arm bands.
made from duct tape.

I was going to post the same thing - our climbing gym is having a party, but I have until Tuesday to find a costume!
