Well, last night I decided it was time I tried nuking a CD, and see what I could make of it. So, I did so, for 15 seconds. Cd was fine, however there is a terrible odor in the microwave now, and hubby is PO'd at me, lol. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? We've cleaned several times, added a tray of baking soda, and now it's sitting outside because it smells so bad. It's an older micro, we know it needs replacing soon, but we'd prefer to hold onto it for just a while longer (until the funds are there to replace). Any help?

i dont know much about how to clean the microwave but i have microwaved my fair share of AOL discs and they do really well at 7 seconds. you get a nice light show and a cool pattern on the disc and to the best of my knowlege, no smell. So when you do replace your microwave/ get it cleaned I hope that helps your future cd endevors.

Thanks! I've been microwaving a bowl of water for 2 minutes, then wiping down the inside. I also used a scrub of baking soda and water, hoping that may help. It's not as bad, but will take some time, lol.

Thanks for the tip! I will keep them to 7 seconds Smiley

remember, shiny side up and obvisouly, they are mega hot so be careful! i still burn myself sometimes. The discs that work the coolest are the foil shiny AOL ones but thats my opinion. You can thank my pyro boyfriend for getting me into microwaving cds. I do it for art, he does it for love of melting stuff lol!
