A local woman makes diaper cakes and she has called on me a few times to make up personalized items that she incorporates into the diaper cakes.  they turn out so cute!  The set is a tiny (like 26" square) fleece blanket, a bib, and a burp cloth.

Before, she took this set. . .

And turned it into this cake. . .

Plus she had a nice write up in the Biz section of our local paper yesterday, so I hope she gets more orders for personalized cakes so that I can make more for her.

I have a Janome MC300E, which I highly recommend.  It costs around $1000 but has built in fonts and built in monogram set up for 2-3 letter monograms.

I also purchased the Digitizer 10000 package, which was another $800 or so (at half price, they said).  It allows me to take digital images such as a .gif or .jpg and turn it into an embroiderable image.  It has other cool features, too.

I hear that a much cheaper product called Embird will do many if not all of the same things Digitizer 10000 does.  It's worth doing some homework on that.

If I had really been planning, though, I would've sprung for a program that turns photographs into digital images, such as Digitizer Pro.  I can do that to some degree, but not with the results I really want.

The Janome has been great.  I have had it a year now.  By next year, I hope to be busy enough that I can lease one of those really fancy machines with at least 6 needles (colors) at a time.  We'll see.
