Robot Friend - a mixed media hanging art piece

One day, a very tired visual art student decided it was time to clean her craft room. She cleaned and cleaned and cleaned till she couldn't clean anymore, but as she was cleaning she found herself keeping odds and ends that she couldn't seem to let go of. Once her craft room was sparkling, the tired student realized that she had created a rather large pile of these odds and ends. In this pile there were shoe boxes, light bulbs, first knittings, zippers, cd's, as well as buttons and bows. Not knowing what to do with them, she set them aside and decided to go to bed. Having the overactive brain that she had, the student couldn't sleep, so she began to think. Wild thoughts zoomed through her head, but one particular thought seemed to linger. She always wanted a robot friend. Afterall, a robot friend could help her with many things. It could clean her brushes, tidy up the house, walk her overactive russell terror of a dog, keep her craft room tidy, keep her company, and best of all give her more time to sleep! The art student drew up a plan in her sketchbook and fell right asleep. It just so happened that the robot fairy heard her prayers that night, she waved her antena and turned the pile of odds and ends into a body. She gave him a wooly heart so that he could feel love and because she tripped on a few paint buckets on the way in, she also pricked his heart with three needles so that he could feel pain. She programmed him to help the art student and to, in his spare time, suck up the sadness in the world (this is why his outer surface is blue). When morning came, the art student woke up, and to her surprise there he was at the foot of her bed.... "Hello I am Robot Friend. I 01101000 01100101 01100001 01110010 01110100 you."








His body is made of a shoe box which I spray painted blue and glued onto a masonite board which I spray painted silver. Appart from the spray paint I used to paint him, he is completely made out of recycled materials. I even used my very first knittings to make his heart as well as his arms and neck.

Ahh thank you!  Glad you like him. I like him so much he is up on my wall in my craft room.
I have a bit of an overactive imagination, hopefully it will pay off some day. Haha
