AmiGIRumi and his rubber piggy
«
on:
October 04, 2006 06:55:32 PM »
This is my first post here on craftster. A challenge was just what I needed to get me going.
My entry is a crocheted GIR, my favorite robot ever, and his beloved (bad, bad) rubber piggy.
Oh, look at that crazy piggy!
He's one lazy robot...
Close up of piggy
GIR is about 30 centimeters tall and the piggy, who's made from polymer clay, measures 6 cm.
Both me and GIR were very exited about entering this challenge!

Thank you all so much!!! This totally made my day
One part of me (the one with the gigantic lack of self esteem) didn't want to post here at all, but now I see that it was a good idea after all. It's not that scary... you people here on craftster are really nice!

I love Gir as well, and this is the best one I have seen. There is a knitted Gir pattern out there, but this guy is the best. I am totall impressed by the piggy, it is so authentic I thought you had bought it somewhere at first.

I wouldn't have thought it would be unless money is made because of it. It's like fan art I suppose... although it might win someone a competition... But I think it would come under the heading of fan art, of course if I am wrong I hope someone will correct me

Fan art it is. There's no money being made so there's nothing to worry about.
I love Gir. Your recreation is very good, it looks much like my purchased GIR! And that piggy is great! GREAT!

Oh wow! Thanks again! All the nice things you guys have said has made GIR and me very happy. And the piggy has gotten kinda smug...
I'm either going to make me my own homepage or sign up for a blog soon, and I will probably post the pattern there. It just needs some (aka. a lot of) work now... first of all I need to make it understandable for others.
And then it's the matter of translating it. I'm no good at the American abbreviations. Hopefully the whole thing won't take too long.
calloocallay
- I buy pillows from IKEA, rip up the seam and use the stuffing
First I bought very expensive stuffing but I didn't like the end result, it got too lumpy, and it didn't really make my wallet happy. The IKEA-pillows are about four times cheaper and, I think, twice as good.
bisbeestitches
- I never claimed he was my own idea, I thought people would recognize him since I've seen him around here on craftster before. Maybe I should have written that he was a character from Invader Zim so it would be clear to everyone, that was thoughtless of me. I read the rules and it didn't say wether copyrighted things were okay or not so I figured I would enter the challenge and if there were to be a problem the moderators would contact me. I really hope GIR can stay in the competition, but I don't want to break any rules.

Thanks! From both me and the piggy. He was the first thing I've made from polymer clay in a couple of years and I had forgotten how much fun it is. I'm planning on making some other characters from the show too, a moose, a bee, the garden gnomes and flamingo and of course a taco.
Oooh I want to get right to it but it's almost 4 now and I really should be sleeping >_<
