Alchemy is a way to request custom items from a seller. It's cumbersome to use for both buyer and seller, and for the seller it doesn't show a picture of the sold Alchemy item in the sold items page (just shows a gold brick). On the other hand, feedbacks left for Alchemy transactions are double-weighted, so if you get a positive feedback for an item, it actually counts as two positive feedbacks (and so bumps up your feedback statistics nicely). Feedback is also double-weighted on both sides -- for both the buyer and the seller.

I just went through this process when I ordered a set of baby fruit hats from MountainEagleCrafter. There is a LOT of going back and forth to get an Alchemy done.

Nod politely when people tell you it can't be done. Then go out and do it anyway!
