How about these instructions: http://www.homemadesimple.com/living/denim_throw.shtml

Gives a lovely chenille-y surface!

I've made many blue jean quilts (gave 5 bed-sized ones for Christmas) & the best advice I can give to anyone making them is that they use commercial laundromats to wash & dry their finished quilts. In the beginning I used my washer & dryer at home & had a flood when the small threads clogged the hose on my machine.

Similar to the HomeMadeSimple link but with the addition of flannel which also frays nicely, I recently followed (pretty closely) the instructions from this site using denim and flannel:
http://joannspatterns.com/Too%20e-z%20denim%20quilt.htm
You will end up with something that looks like this:

Good Luck!
