Quilting foot help

I have a John Lewis (UK brand) sewing machine and it came with lots of feet but now I want one for quilting.
I use generic bobbins with it; is there such thing as a generic quilting foot? There's one on eBay called a 'Low Shank Quilting Foot with Guide 1/4 for all makes and models of sewing machine with the Low Lift shank.'
What does that mean?

There are such things as generic quilting feet.  Mine is called the "Big Foot".  Some quilters also use a darning foot to quilt.  The shank is a part that has to do with changing the feet easily.  The manual for your machine might tell you which kind of shank you have, but mine didn't.  If you give the model number and brand of machine you have to most sewing supply shops that sell lots of feet, they can tell you which kind of shank you have.  I got mine from www.keepsakequiltin g.com.  I called them up and they were able to tell me which foot to buy.  Hope this helps!

Kala is correct!!  The shank is the part of your machine in which the feet are attached.  There is low, high and slanted.  From the looks of your machine, I'd say you have a low shank, but again as Kala stated, you can tell them what machine you have and they will know. 

Kala?  I've been thinking about getting the "big foot".  How do you like it?  Is it worth having?  Another attachment I would love to have is the Curve Master!!!!!  Supposedly, you can sew any curve w/out pinning!!

I would definately recomment the Big Foot, it's worked really great for me.  I think I've had mine for about four years now and I haven't had any problems.  Oooh, I havnen't heard about the Curve Master but it sounds like something I need to investigate!

Thank you so much for the replies ladies! Yesterday I was passing the shop where I bought machiney so popped in and asked at the counter - the lady checked out the display model of my machine and it comes with a metal rod thing that looks like this for spacing quilt stitches:

I've found it so now I've just gotta find the manual and have a play around see how it works
