Rounded bust seam like in Miu-Miú balloon sweater

it looks like short rows

To me it looks like it is literally a seam. As in knit fabric that was cut and sewn together with a sewing machine. It would be nice if someone could look at the actual garment.

You could probably do short rows to make that shape on the front of the body and then make a shrug-type piece for the sleeves (maybe like this: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter05/PATTtubey.html ) except the shrug would have a front piece on it too...I think I have an idea for how to do it but it's hard to explain.  And then you could just sew the two together to get that seam along the front.  It looks like a pretty tight gauge.

yeah, i had a close look the other day and i'm pretty sure that the main part of the sweater is knit fabric, not knitted.
so, cut and seamed.
