so im really tempted to do this project! but i really dont want to buy a bottle cutter (college = cheap) so i want to try the string technique but im kinda scared! anyone else try it?

for those that dont know what it is, heres two entertaining videos via youtube

PLUS say i want to make them drinking glasses? i dont want to buy a whole dremel tool and everything, but my dad does have some wet sandpaper that i can borrow, do you think that would work enough that you could drink out of it?

So has anyone tried the string technique?

My mom & I tried today, and it didn't work.
We tried it on an Izze bottle with yarn and rubbing alcohol...
Help!

I should really get me some of that gel candle stuff, it looks like a really easy way to turn things into awesome candles.

I have wanted to make these ever since this post was just a baby, but I can't bring myself to put out the money for a glass cutter I will only use once and the string and fire method seems very tedious. If only there was another way to make these wonderful things.
