a super simple craft, attaching old circuit boards (from an old laptop, in this case) to store brought notebooks and personalising them with stamped binary code letters (the recipients initial in this case)

That's a simple, but brilliant, concept.  I could see this type of thing appealing to a lot of technophiles!  How heavy do the circuit boards make the notebooks?

Well the circuit boards aren't really that heavy, even the bigger ones. I guess those out of older machines with bigger resistors would weigh more.
But i would advise using stiff cover notebooks, not soft, since obviously the circuit boards are stiff and would pull awkwardly on a soft cover when you opened the book.

This is glorious. Minimum effort -depending on how easily you can get good circuit boards perhaps, but still- and maximum effect! I love it and now I want one xD
