so, tonight i finally made something i've been thinking about for a while. this was a tester, just to see if my imagined method of costruction would work - so it is certainly flawed. future versions will be lined, and i will take the time to pin and/or mark so things will line up correctly.

on to the pictures!

first off: the inspiration - my chair from ikea

front end - i forgot the little tab for tuggin'

back end - where i remembered said tab

size comparison to a macbook

the finished dimentions, piping included are 8" long x 4" tall x 3" deep. the zipper is 10" long. it's a good size to carry a fair amout of stuff, i rather like it.

i asked my husband's poker buddies what they thought of it, and they all agreed that "it's alright" and i would love some more (detailed) opinions! for the record, from start to finish, this took about two hours - my sewing machine really disliked this project  Lips sealed

Do you need a cute purse to go with that outfit?

That little case is more than alright.  I really like it.  It makes me want to figure out zippers now.

I'm interested in personal swaps -- I love bracelets & necklaces and I don't know how to make them.

It's delicious  Wink

If it lives in the water or flies in the air, I'm in love with it. In New Zealand I saw a flying fish and almost wet myself.

I love it!!  now, did you have to use a zipper that comes apart or was it always connected on one end?  I've been trying to make a good make-up case, but have struggled withg the zipper part.

It's fantastic!  I really like the contrast welt, and red and white are two of my favorite colors together.  I would have put it together the same way.

You just can't expect a detailed opinion from a dude.

thank you all for the comments! these are much more gratifying than "its allright" <3

It makes me want to figure out zippers now
zippers are easy! for me, big zippers are easy, little projects, like zippered coin purses are the tricky ones for me. BUT there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of a well sewn zipper to liven your day  Wink

did you have to use a zipper that comes apart or was it always connected on one end?
i used a regular zipper instead of a separating zipper, personally, i always buy zippers that are longer than what i need. yes, this zipper is 10" in lenth, but it was originally 15" long or so. i do this because a hate having to sew around the zipper stop! also, i think it just looks cleaner when closed.

red and white are two of my favorite colors together
me too! you saw my chair, and my red desk w/ white macbook! its so bold and simple! i'm glad that you liked this one - i especially value the opinions of others who work with vinyl. maybe one day i will actually have an industrial machine - my conventional machine starts getting pissy when i sew more than 4 layers of vinyl  Undecided
