I don't know who else is a crochetter around here, but I've been noticing recently that Amigurumi is on the rise.  It seems to be taking over the crochet board.  I think the stuff people make is really adorable, but I'm personally more into making garments.  Whenever I'm trying to browse the Crochet board for inspiration, sometimes I kinda wish Amigurumi had it's own section.  It would help both garment crochetters and Amigurumi crochetters browse for projects they liked/were in the mood, save time on browsing and give some recognition to Amigurumi, which I think is a great craft and has it's own unique qualities that can be recognized as being different from other types of crochet.  Any thoughts?

Amigurumi is one of those things that can already go in a few places: the crochet board or the toys board. I don't think amigurumi techniques are really all that different from regular crochet, anyway, it just happens to have a Japanese name to i. I think putting another board in might be a good idea, but to be perfectly honest, there are an average of 3 - 5 new projects posted per day on the crochet board (if that many), so it's not overwhelming the board or anything.

haha well right now we have an amigurumi challenge! No wonder there are loads of amigurumi. Amigurumi is a fad right now, similar to ipod cozies. For a while, everyone was making them but now theres only a post every so often. Amigurumi is like that, too.

I just highly doubt we'll be getting an amigurumi board. Just wait, itll die down. For now, though, just enjoy that something has made people want to learn to crochet! Cheesy

I will make one later, for fun.

What about a separate board for amigurumi projects?  The crochet finished projects board seems to be full of them.  Don't get me wrong - I think they are great, and might try a few myself one day, but you have to sift through them to find the other stuff (garments, bags & accessories etc) which I am more interested in at the moment!

Update:  Sorry, mod!  I hadn't seen the previous posting on this (too lazy to go to the next page  Embarrassed).

I was wondering if under the Completed Projects, we could have a separate board for Amigurumi and one for other projects.
I mean no offense to those who make Amigurumi, I do want to make a few for some of the children in my life. But I'm not as interested in it. And sometimes I feel as if the crochet board is completely swamped with it.
It also seems like other projects [scarves, afghans, mitts, hats, etc] get lost in the sea of Amigurumi [hehe].
Its not like I don't want to see it, I just think that because it is something that is so popular, it might deserve its own heading under crochet.

Its totally just a thought. I'm willing to be shot down.

And sorry.

I hadn't seen it in my wanderings.
And I thought about whether I was placing it in the right place just after I hit post.

Every time I venture into the crochet forums I feel inundated by amigurumi/small crocheted creatures. So, regardless of the fad status of it, I really would love to see a separate board for the small crocheted creatures (...crocheted toilet paper, too).

This thread is what I came to this board to see! I make both amis and other crochet, and I think it would be nice to see a child board somewhere. Wink

I think it would be really useful to have a separate amigurumi category in the crochet board (and perhaps a similar category for hansigurumi, the knitting version). The projects are different enough in nature (they get their own books and such!), and plus I think it might also help generate interest in crochet in general to have a separate board for people to discuss amigurumi WIPs and FOs.

Do you mean a thread or a board?

If you mean a thread, you could totally just start one.  You could even make it an "Amigurumi Craftalong" on the Craftalong board.

Oops, sorry! I got my lingo backwards. Smiley I meant a category within the crochet thread, but a separate board would work too - then hansigurumi (knitted) items could go there, too!

Yes, please! I was wondering why I hadn't seen a discussion about this - it's because I didn't look hard enough, apparently. Tongue

Thanks!

I definitely support a separate amigurumi board - maybe the hansigurumi could be there, too, which would normally be in the knitting board!

I didn't dig this idea when it was originally suggested, but now I totally do.  There are LOTS of ami completed projects just begging for a new home. Smiley

This doesn't solve the problem of there being lots of amigurumi on the crochet board, but it does solve the problem of people ONLY wanting to see ami. Smiley

I just tagged every single Completed Projects thread that has "amigurumi" in the title and a working thumbnail/image for these four boards:
     Crochet: Completed Projects
     Crochet: Challenge Entries
Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects
Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Challenge Entries

So that means the amigurumi tag should now have over 600 projects in it for you to check out. Grin  Have fun!

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?action=tags  Haha, ami is HUGE in the tag cloud now. Cheesy

I asked Leah if we could break the tag results up into pages like a board.  Currently, it's one realllllly long page of amigurumi, which might overwhelm some systems.  Stay tuned! Smiley

I only want to see non-amigurumi. I really it would get a separate board.  Sad

Hey--- does anyone else think it would make sense to split the "completed projects" board into two categories--- amigurumi, and then everything else? It seems like there's an awful lot of ami's, especially in the past year or so, and sometimes it's hard to wade through all of it.
