hi. i'm new to posting on this message board but have lurked here and there for the past while, and finally decided to make an appearance and show some of my work!

i thought i would share this peach dress i just made a couple days ago, i tried to go with a retro feel, and it's really only my 3rd/4th dress i've ever made but the one i'm most satisfied with.

i convinced my lovely friend rhiannon to come over last week to model it for me.

well, here goes...

this is the front of the dress, with a view of the pocket

another view of the front

a view of the back (my first time sewing on a zipper!!)

and a close up of the fabric i used, and the cutest apple buttons

thanks for looking. constructive criticism always appreciated.

That's gorgeous, and looks like it would easily sell at least $100 at a good boutique! Well, i would definitely buy it... great job!

Great dress! Good job on the zipper too....if you want the back to be even better I would suggest putting a hook and eye on the top where the zipper stops. That just an idea though....

I was going to make a suggestion to add a hook and eye on the top of the zipper too but I see someone beat me to it... ^_^;;

Well, I love the color, it looks very good on you, the apple buttons are cute and I love the pleating on the hem - very nice touch.

Oh, zoubs, that is SOOO incredibly awesomely cute! Cheesy

I think the addition of that matching fabric at the lowered waist and ruffles really make this dress. So, is this your own design?

I would also like to know whether you came up with the design or not, because frankly, I love it and think you did pretty fantastically...especially considering you'd never done a zipper before!  I'm still too timid to try one, haha.  I love the ruffle, too, by the way.  I really like the peach color, and I agree that the apple buttons are adorable, however, I'm not sure they go great together.  Still, maybe they do and in any case it's still a fabulous dress.

yes, i came up with the design. i was so surprised the zipper thing turned out the way it did. i own this really cute housewife dress with a zipper down the side, and i studied it to death, trying to figure out what they did to sew on the zipper. i basically took the edge of the fabric and one side of the zipper, and sewed it together so it was somewhat folded under the fabric. it was still loose so i decided to stitch on the outside and just made sure to follow a straight line, to make it look as neat as possible. it's kind of hard for me to explain but i could always draw a diagram if you like!

i know the buttons don't really go with the dress, but i was kind of going with a retro vibe and it sorta reminds me of a 60's/70's kitchen and how wallpapers, furniture and things didn't really mix well. Cheesy
