My sister and I made some teddy bears for the organization Artists Helping Children, but when we weren't looking some law was passed that forced them to lose their non-proft status, thus not being able to recieve anymore donations. There's three bears - not the best quality, as we're very rudimentary sewers - but we wanted to help and felt someone would appreciate them. On their site, there's links to hospitals and shelters - but I've looked on those websites and many of the hospitals specifically request store-bought and packaged things due to the germs concern, and the shelters I've looked at are moreso looking for food and money.
So, my question is, is there an organization that will accept these teddy bears? One specifically aimed at sending crafted toys to children, or something like that? Any help is appreciated, thanks. Smiley

Can you donate them to a local children's hospital? I bet the kids would love them.  Or, is there a Battered Women's shelter/Homeless shelter near you? I bet kids there would love them as well.

If you go to www.americansewinge xpo.com, along the sidebar, there's a link for "Kuddles for Kids".  It doesn't tell you much about actually donating other bears, but it has a contact link that might be able to help you find homes for your bears.

For anyone not wanting to check the link, there's an expo in the Detroit area that has a booth to make teddy bears for police officers to give to children as a comfort.

Thanks, both of you! I'll definitely check those out.

Beginning of August, I think. I went on in the beginning of September looking for the mailing address, and couldn't find it. That's when I realized the big notice on the front page. Sad
Hopefully this thread can help you too, then, though. Cheesy

My hubby works at the local sheriff's department, and apparently, when they have them, police officers carry a teddy in their vehicles to give to children during stressful circumstances (domestic violence, etc).  You could look into that.

Hm, yep, that seems similar to the Kuddles for Kids link someone posted earlier. I'll definitely look into that, sounds like a great cause. Thanks!

I think I'm sending my bears to Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation as Christmas gifts for the kids.  Smiley
