I bought some lightning fabric like that at Spotlight in Australia a few years ago.

Incidentally, I have made some similar balls to this but with two different pieces. That way, you don't get the hole in the middle that some people have mentioned. There is a wedge shaped piece and one shaped like a quarter circlewith a rounded top. I could search out the pattern if anyone is interested.

Thanks!  This seems like a good time to make them since they would make great ornaments - ooh with some pretty brocade fabric in red and gold!  Someone should make one and show us!

I realized after posting pictures of my puzzle ball that my pattern is different than the tutorial in this craftalong.  The way the "rings" are sewn together is what makes you able to take it apart and put it back together again.  I guess that helps to store it flat when you're done playing/decorating with it  Smiley

I just finished one of these for one of my grandsons for Christmas, following the pattern at http://sewing.about.com/od/babyshowergiftsewing/ss/babyball.htm.  The ball is huge it is nearly a foot in diameter.  That is not what I was going for, plus although I used the "plump" pattern it still isn't snug in the center as I hoped.  Live and learn...
