I am a full-time college student who has been lucky enough to have teachers that let me knit in class (albiet with wooden needles only!) and wanted to thank them for the distraction my knitting may have caused by knitting them something little for the holidays and I would love some SUGGESTIONS PLEASE- I was thinking along the lines of dishcloths or knitted argyle bookmarks, but then I ran out of ideas.  Thanks for the help!

Try these links, most are small, easy ornaments.

I love the pattern for the flower washcloth in Melanie Falick's "Weekend Knitting" (there's a thread devoted to this book somewhere on this forum) - it's relatively quick and easy, and looks fantastic.  I would advise against using chenille, though - just b/c it's kind of a pain to knit with.  I've knit it from cotton and it's turned out lovely.

thanks so much gloriana and fl_mariposa, those are super ideas.  I do have two male teachers and think the flower washcloths may be a little, ahem, girly, so I think I'm going to do tiny gague argyle bookmarks backed in felt- it's definitly going to be more of a pain than I'm anticipating though!

i think bookmarks will be fab, you can also make them cell phone covers, pda covers, checkbook covers.

This might be a bit old fashioned, but you can make them eye glass cases, or even tissue holders (for the ladies)

there are some amazing knit ornaments at anthropologie.com, tiny sweters, knit cupcakes and knit balls- go to the home decor section, then holiday, then view all.

There are some free patterns on the interweave knits site for knitted ties.
