Real love isn't brains, children. It's blood.

all of my tattoos are illustrations from children's books.  i'm an elementary school teacher and, obviously, a little obsessive about my children's literature.

the first is from roald dahl's matilda.  i got it about a year and a half ago.  (all of these pictures were taken within a day of getting the tattoo, especially in the matilda one my skin is still all red.)
<<<quoted image removed... please remove images in quotes - thanks!>>>
my other two are on the inside of my arms and are from madeline l'engle's a wrinkle in time.  the illustrations together show a demonstartion of a tesseract, which is the "wrinkle" in time.  (i am always eager to discuss it in person but it seems a little silly to go through the whole thing in typed form).  getting tattooed on the inside of my arm hurt way less than everyone said it would.  i was prepared to scream, but then it totally wasn't that bad.  not that much worse than my shoulder tattoo, even.

sorry, the first is totally blurry, but the second picture turned out well.

regular time:

how funny sad is it that as soon as i saw the tesseract pic, i knew exactly what it was.  Im thinking of getting an ouroboros tattoo modified from the tattoo David Boreanaz sported on BtVS (the gryphin/A) when my brother gets back from iraq.  One of my artist friends is drawing it for me, but I am still being chicken about the pain, and I dont really know where to put it.

So I have a question. Today my friend laughed in my face because I said something about foot tattoos fading more quickly than others, because shoes rub against them a lot and such. After a while of "Nuh uh," "yes huh," he said that MAYBE when they're healing, that happens, but once they've healed, it doesn't matter how much they are rubbed by shoes. I'm not satisfied, though. Am I completely off base here? I do not have (am not old enough to get) any tattoos, but I am a fan, and I read this thread and look at other tattoo sites pretty constantly, so I thought I knew a good amount about them. But maybe not.

i don't think it's the shoes, its the sun and the fact that your skin is thinner i think. (i could be wrong on that second thing), but i do know that tattoos fade more quickly on hands and feet

The two biggest enemies of tattoos: Sun and Friction. Those'll kill 'em faster than anything else.

Fizzled: I'm at Ace Tattoo (till I open my own studio: Tattoos and Yarn, hooray!) If you're in MN, have you checked out that we're getting together? Check out the link in my signature!

Wildflowers: Didn't mean that they shouldn't be in both threads, I was just making sure my brain wasn't making things up!(I think they're awesome, BTW why do I always get Kanji and butterflies, and other artists get sugarskulls and pincushions? sigh.)

Speaking as someone who got their foot tattooed yesterday - my tattooist said that because feet don't have as great circulation as other parts of the body, it's harder to heal and takes a little bit longer, so that's the reason it might fade/lose colour whilst healing. Most of my shoes are pretty low and don't hit the tattoo anyway. When it's healed, I don't think it would be affected by rubbing from shoes and stuff. Don't hold me to it though Smiley

I just posted this pic in another thread, but here's one of my tattoos.  It's on my left shoulder blade.  I still don't have any pictures of the more recent one, which looks like henna and is on my lower back.   Undecided

Ooh, are you pleased with it? I think a henna-colored tattoo would be so pretty, but I haven't really seen any around.
