it shouldn't smell that bad. It might have been a bad tube.
Any other ideas for A&D cream - I happen to break out in hives when I use it. I didn't find this out until the big dragon tattoo of course - I have been using george's hand cream to keep the itchies down.

Actually, it's a proven fact that nonscented lotion works better for tattoos.  A few shops in my area are switching over and telling people to use A&D as a last resort, but NEVER EVER usee scented! Smiley

When I got my first tat a few weeks ago, I used scented lotion cause I had nothing else around and it BURNED! I only use unscented now, but could the scented lotion damage the tattoo?

I don't know that I'd describe it as "scented", at least I hope that rank smell was actually ADDED, LOL

I'll bring you some unscented packets from work at the meetup, batgirl.  You just want to use the A&D for the first three days or so anyhoo. Smiley Check and see if you have a reaction to Bactine on those cat scratches. That stuff's the best.

Also you did buy A&D Ointment not thecream, correct? The ointment is in the band-aid aisle, the cream is in the baby aisle, and is used for diaper rashes. You don't have one of those.  Grin

Scented lotions can aggrivate the skin(as you learned) and THAT might effect the tattoo, but the scent itself shouldn't hurt the ink so long as the lotion didn't have a petrolium base(which would be weird if it did.)

Thanks!! Yep, it's ointment, it's greasy like neosporin and clearish, with an indescribable chemically smell that's very hard to wash off. The smell is weirdly familiar, yet hideous. Blech! It does say something about diaper rash but also mentions cuts & scratches. Ick. At least the tattoo will be on my foot, as far as possible from my nose, hehe! I do have a question about shoes and my foot tat. I am assuming I should wear shoes that don't touch it/cover it, for a little while. How long till I can wear other shoes again? It will be on the top of my foot/ankle. I'm trying to prepare for my conference wardrobe!  Wink

Wait as Looooong as possible. You should heal up in about two weeks. If you need to wear a shoe, make sure it's loose-fitting, and wear breathable(cotton) socks. Chaffing is the #2 enemy to a tattoo.

Here's my latest and greatest--a roller skating voodoo doll done in February at the Philly convention.  I was there promoting for roller derby and couldn't resist adding to the collection.  It's an original design, drawn (and redrawn many times) to match my whims by a patient (and probably bored) artist.  It's on my right side and hurt worse than any of my others.
