Moonisout...Hopeful ly before too much longer I can get pictures up.  But, the tat is not actually of a door, but of a keyhole plate.....very scrolly and old-fashioned looking., with a large dark keyhole opening.  However, I really am liking the idea of a whole door, too......just barely open, looking a little mysterious and inviting..........I love me some mystery and a little shiver or two.

Lyrem.....Yes, I lost them both.  My stepdaughter a few years ago from complications after a triple by-pass....not from the actual operation, but from a staph infection.  She never made it home from the hospital.  It was heart-rending.  I lost my husband April '04 to brain cancer.  Sometimes it all feels like it was just a very sad movie that I watched once.  Not because of fading memories but because in order to make it through the process of caring for him and watching him die at home I had to force myself into a sort of detached state.  I had to see myself as a caretaker with a job to do just so I wouldn't lose it.  That wouldn't have helped him, the family or me.  Sadly, I do so well at detaching myself from hurtful things sometimes I find myself appearing aloof and uncaring.  Ah well, there's the sad little story and, I'm sure, much more than you really cared to know.  But, life is good now and I've never been one to dwell on the past, so I am happy.  BTW, the whole reason for the Latin inscription tattoo....."the written word abides".....is that my step-daughter, my late husband and myself were/are writers.....as is my youngest daughter (18) and my current partner.  As a matter of fact, we just received two copies of his newest book yesterday!  So, you can tell the phrase holds a lot of meaning for me.  Okay, I'm through.

sorry to hear about all the tragedies, violet.  a poem my husband and i are considering getting (half on each of us) is this:

come, fill the cup, and in the fire of spring
the winter garment of repentance fling:
the bird of time has but a little way
to fly-and lo! the bird is on the wing.

it's verse 7 of the rubaiyat of omar khayyam.  translated into english, so you could translate it again into latin or use the original arabic (i'm pretty sure arabic, unless ancient persia had its own language).

another verse that may be relevant from the same work:

one moment in annihilation's waste,
one moment, of the well of life to taste-
the stars are setting, and the caravan
starts for the dawn of nothing - oh, make haste!

hope these help.  i try to turn tragedy in my life into reminders to live it fully, which is a big theme in this work.

Feel free to delete these if they don't fit in, but these are henna tattoos that I got done on holiday in Dubai. I loved them, but they faded all too quickly  Cry I don't think I would be brave enough to get a real tattoo, but who knows!

This is the first one that got done on my arm, and then cos it was attracting so much attention, I got this next one on my shoulder free!

I am in absolute awe of everyone's real tattoos though!

Does anyone know anything about tattooing over scars?  I have been a cutter for five years, and I'm finally getting some help for it.  I haven't hurt myself in a month and four days.  Not a long time, but it's the longest that I've gone.  I would really like to get some big, elaborate tattoo on the inside of my left arm.  I have regular, white, not very raised scars, but I also have five red burn scars and one scar that is from a cut that is red and a little raised.  I'm sure they'll fade in (at least) three years that I'm going to wait.

tattoos can totally go over scars, and the tattoo artist will obviously take it into account while they are helping you plan. i had a friend who had a cigar burn scar, and part of a tattoo he has went right over it, no problem.

virus:   I was a burner and have tattoos over a few of my burns and you can hardly see them.  Actually, I think I only even notice them because I know they're there.
