Yup, that's true.  The only part of my body that hurt--really hurt--was the glitter trail on the small of my back (see glue gun tattoo above).  Fishie on my ankle?  No sweat.  Flowers and gun?  Piece of cake.  I giggled a lot because it tickled.  Lip?  Painless.  But that two inches of glitter, oh....owie.

Of course, it was entirely worth it.  It wasn't the worst pain I've ever felt, and if it is, well, I'll consider myself lucky.  While I do agree that if you really aren't sure you (I'm not directing this at anyone specific) can take it you might want to get a small piece first, I do think that you should finish whatever you start (unless you're having a heart attack or blacking out or some other horrible yet very unlikely occurence).   It feels good to endure something...I hate the word 'empowering', but...well...it kind of is.  And, over the years I've met  three people who have gone halfway (because of pain issues) and every one of them regrets stopping, but none of them has been able to go back to finish, because they've focused on the memory of the pain for so long that they've blown it entirely out of proportion.  Does that make sense?  It's early for me :p

This is such a fun thread!  I love seeing everyone's art!

that does make a lit of sense. i got mine done on my ribs and it wasnt too painful, the guy doing it for me practically convinced me it was going to kill but in some places it was more ticklish (think bottom of ribcage n my side) than painful. i would definately get another one though, ive just gotta thnk of something real good, lol

Yay!  I got my glue gun today!  Woo!
It says, "Sassy-Oh-Matic".  The glue is red, yes; I wanted it to be, like, gluey blood.  Or something.  Whatever.
It's amazingly difficult to take pictures of your own hip :p
I LOVE it.  It's SO ME!
Once again, it's by Joey at Pumpkin Tattoo in Boston.

That is so cool! I love it!

Wow thanks everyone for your insights. It gave me much to think about. I really need to get a new tattoo soon.

*Edited to make corrections* SassetteOPants your glue gun tattoo is so very cool.  leeann I was so impressed with your sleeve that I was telling my boyfriend about it last night.  Grin

a lot of people find that pinprick spots hurt more than lines - which may explain why the glitter was so excrutiating.  i have two on my spine and one on my shoulder/arm - the one on my arm, on the inside bits, hurt the most of any of them.  for most of the rest of it, i was reading and would occasionally look up with surprise to remember that a lunatic was stabbing me with needles the whole time.

Sweet and simple. First tattoo. The lady flipped out when I just sat there quietly. She knocked the price down $20 because I was such a trooper.Taken the day I got it (8 days ago).Miss Billie at Pain and Wonder, Athens, GA

i started getting my tattoos about a year ago.

my first one on my upper back

my second one on the inside of my left wrist

my third on the inside of my right wrist

one of my brothers got a version of the last one, and my other brother is looking into getting it. it's kind of an accidental 'family tree'

Thank you darkdiva!  But I only have the one crafty tatt--I think you might have me confused with the lady who has the amazing sewin' sleeve (I'm at work, my connection is slow, so I can't look up her name!).
