Continuing with the bee trend:

This has something of an odd meaning. Last year a friend of mine asked me why I was single, as though there is some sort of tangible reason, so I said "Oh, I am secretly made of bees." It is one of the best things I've ever said off the top of my head and it became a joke among my friends. Even though it was kind of a non-sense thing to say I think it actually is a pretty apt metaphor. I got the tattoo to symbolize that even though I am made of bees, they are pretty bees and being single does not mean that there is something wrong with me. So basically it is about being happy about who I am.


I am so exceedingly happy with this tattoo. My first (the tree growing out a book posted awhile back) did not come out exactly how I wanted it so I was really nervous about getting a second one. I think this one is wonderful, but there is some detail missing in the picture so I don't know that it comes through.

I think I've spent at least an hour on here looking at everyones work! its all so beautiful... and I thought I'd share my latest piece.

The humming bird was actually my 3rd tattoo...

here are a couple of mine...pardon the weird quality. its hard to get good pics of myself at that angle.

this is about two and a half years old, on my right shoulder blade.

this is on my left hip, its an extension of an older tattoo, which you cant really see in the pics because its on the back of my left hip.

i guess you can see a bit of the old tat in that last pic. its a rose, drawn by a friend. ive actually been seriously considering getting the big one on my hip and the old rose removed. it isnt finished, it's supposed to continue up to wear my bra sits, with another large rose and more leafy, floral-y things. i keep waffling back and forth between absolutely hating it and wanting to finish it. i think it the long run ill end up getting the newer ink totally removed and having the old rose lightened up enough to cover it up with something that only sits on the back of my hip.

also, "dum spiro, spero" is Latin for "while i breathe, i hope"

i'm planning for a new tattoo and was going through this thread for some inspiration. jrsloane, i absolutely love that big one on your hip. i think you should opt for finishing it instead of removing it. it's gorgeous. and i'm not just saying that, i'm really picky with tattoos and think a lot out there are bad but yours is awesome.

aww, thanks fruithead! i think im the only one who really doesnt like it. unless people are lying to me when they say they like it. i think that ive opted to remove all of hte new linework, because ive decided i dont want anything on my front, i dont want to look at myself from the front in the mirror and see tattoo. so im going to have the original rose on the back of my hip lightened up enough to cover it up with something in color that will sit just on my lower left back. hope ill have enough money this summer to at least get through the removal process. i just wish i hadnt decided on the big tattoo so quickly to begin with...ah, c'est la vie, heh?
