wow... everyone has such beautiful tattoos...  i finally made it through all 400-odd pages of the old thread, and the fifty here... it just makes me want more, and i just had one done.

this is my bird, i drew him while i was sitting backstage being bored, waiting to do quick changes.  basically, it symbolizes the fact that i can go anywhere i want in life.
before anyone asks, yes, it's done, and no, i have no plans to colour or shade it.  i love it as is!

i have another tattoo (my first), which is a stylized star, all in black, that i designed as well.  it's about 2x2, and about 4 inches above my navel.  one of the points has blown out, but i love it even more for it's imperfections (especially since something went weird with the healing, and so now, at about 2 and a half years old, it's still raised up).  i would post a pic, but all the ones i had are on my now-not-functioning computer.

Nice bird.  I like the simplicity.  My tattoo (gummi bear) is blank too and I love it because I can colour it in with magic markers when I want it to match my outfit.  You could make your bird match your outfits too if you wanted.

Here's my second tattoo. I got it in the middle of a two month long, life changing, bike trip.

It's an inukshuk which is a stone landmark built by the Inuit to give direction. Each stone represents a different part of my life (me, my goals, my partner, my parents, each set of grandparents, and both of my brothers).

I sketched it out myself and it's located on the inside of my left wrist.

Thanks to the rabbit hole that is Craftster for hours of writer's procrastination. And thanks to all before for sharing their work and backstories.

Mine is the first and (as yet) only. I am hoping to do some inner wrist and spine work at a future date when I have more money to spend. This was my 30th birthday present to myself.

I love words more than anything else in the world. This is one which Anais Nin made up. Literally, it means 'star-like.' The figurative meaning is a bit more involved.

(The curious may find Henry Miller's essay Un Etre Etoilique http://books.google.com/books?id=uzz94pR0VQsC&pg=PA287&lpg=PA287&dq=etoilique&source=web&ots=eh9qHu-En3&sig=cq2IzpyapVRXzQO1VrHxbTJRcg8#PPA287,M1 helpful. But the short of it would be that it is a play on lunatique (lunatic, literally 'like the moon.'))

I designed the font after a couple of weeks poring over 1930's fonts in books borrowed from the DC public library. I skipped the accent aigu on the leading "e" for symmetry's sake. The tat artist (at Jinx Proof (do not have the artist's name on hand)) shortened the tail of the "l" as it would have extended into my mons the way I Sharpied it. And he dotted the "i"s --since I somehow forgot that little detail.

It is nearly three years old now and still fairly saturated. There are just a couple of milky spots from the original session that I would like to have touched up.

Thanks!  I've still got more to finish, but I'm pretty excited because we've finally started the background! Cheesy

Thanks, jenna rose. I have a little too much flesh on the bones now to see it, but I planned the piece to stretch between my pelvic bones.
