I've spent an hour now looking through this thread, and everyone's work is absolutely fantastic. I can't believe some of the wonderfully creative ideas some of you have had!

I have three "small" tattoos and a half-sleeve that is a work in progress. I only have photos of one of the tattoos -- my wrist piece:

Sorry about the photo bigness, I don't have a cropped version of this photo. Non serviam is Latin for "I will not serve." This isn't a religious statement, persay, more of an assertion of my personal ideals. I became familiar with this phrase while reading "The Illuminatus! Trilogy" by Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea.

This is my simplest, most spur-of-the-moment tattoo, and also the one I think is the most perfect. It's in my own handwriting; I wrote it out on a piece of notebook paper while sitting in the tattooist's chair getting my sleeve worked on. He then put it on my wrist after he was done with my arm.

Okay! This thread got me motivated to finally take pictures of my arm. Here we go!!!!

Here's the whole thing. I had just got off work and was still "Clark-Kenting it up," as a friend says (black-rimmed glasses and low bun).

The script on the bottom is a quote from the play "Alcestis" by Euripedes, and says:

None can come near Her altars,
none worship Her statues,
and to sacrifice She pays no heed.
Oh mighty Fate,
With a gesture the gods judge
but the sentence is Yours.
The world yields to Your strength,
and there is no pity in Your heart.

Details of The Ladies, who are the top half of the tattoo:

I started this as a half-sleeve about four years ago, sort of. To make a long story short, I drew The Ladies and knew I definitely wanted them as the centerpiece of a half-sleeve. Knowing that I'd have to go bit by bit anyway, I got that portion done, then added the text about a year ago. I'm now trying to decide what to do next.

The decision I'm struggling with now is how, where and if to add color. The work I've already had done -- the main image -- is mostly black and white with red accents. Having "worn" it for several years, I feel like I really want more color around it, but I'm not sure if it will mesh with what's already there.

Does anyone have any experience with mixing black and white with color in a large piece? Does it mix well, or do they just clash with each other?

i love looking at this thread so finally thought i would post pictures of my own tattoos. the color one is the most recent. it was a xmas present from my mom!

newest tattoo. a fruit bat eating a mango. this is actually an illustration from a children's book.

simple heart outline on my wrist. my first tattoo ever.

this picture is from a couple of years ago but the best one i have of my other bat tattoo. from the same children's book as the one above. it's a mother bat in flight with her baby clinging to her chest.

more to come!

terrific bats!  Stellaluna was one of the few kids' books I couldn't pass along once my kids outgrew them - they're in the Special Kids Books box.

Ooooh!!!  Stellaluna!!  That's such a great book!!  I really really like your tattoos!  They're very original and considering that your mom gifted you one of them........that's so fitting.  And sweet.

My husband just got this one to celebrate his 1 year of sobriety.

We have 2 kids. Ky is our baby. His step mom offered to pay for the tat as a gift. Very cool.

He also has my sons name and birthday tattooed on his forearms.
