Yes, tattoos hurt.  I found it to me more of an annoying pain (please stop, this sucks, kinda pain).  I have one on my lower back done 15 years ago.  It has not faded HOWEVER.. when I had it done it was January and I was in school doing fashion design.  I think that all the rubbing from my jeans is the reason it's raised.  You can find it on my back even if you can't see it.  I would suggestwearing a lot of dresses while it is healing.

I would also suggest getting something that really does have meaning for you so that you won't get bored with it (then again if you can't see it, you can't get bored).  I don't know about stretching when you have kids but I have gained and lost a bit of weight and it's not been a problem.

One more thing, make sure you decide when to show it.  I know a lot of people don't care if their tattoo's show but I find that in some jobs (I work in a hospital) it does matter. It just takes some of the professionality out of you ( I know it shouldn't and maybe it's only happened to me)

3. Any recommendations for artists in the Boston area?

My husband and I both got our tattoos (his first tat, mine was a cover-up) from Ram at Fat Ram's in Jamaica Plain.  I would definitely recommend him.  Here's the website: www.fatramtattoo.co m (seems to be down at the moment though)

I've wanted a tattoo for as long as I can remember, and it was during a solo hike in the Costa Rican rainforest when I was 14 that I realized there was one picture I want on my body forever :

Yay!  The Little Prince is one of my favourite books!  I can't wait to see how it comes out Cheesy

I got my newest one back in September.
It is a memorial tat for my Dad who passed away a year in October from a motorcycle accident.
It's on the outside of my left ankle.

Here is the outline...

I love how he didn't outline the morning glories in black but in color.

Twiztid did an AWESOME job on it.
I couldn't be happier with it.
The morning glories are for my Dad's favorite saying if he thought you were being stupid he would come out and tell ya...
If you put your brain in a hummingbird it would suck a mule's ass thinking it was a morning glory.
Everytime I see a morning glory I have thought of him.
The compass star is the logo of his Yamaha V Star motorcycle.
He LOVED that bike.
It wasn't the bikes fault he died it was the idiot that hit him.
He died doing what he loved.
So I figured it was the perfect thing to get.
Nest month will mark a year that he has been gone.
And there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him.

I go tomorrow night to get another one I will post pics of it too.
If you are a reader of the Discworld series you should be able to recognize it pretty quick!
Until then, bye!!

All the recent works are awesome!

Just a small rant from myself to whoever cares to read.
I was planning on coloring my fish this month, when my dog decided to EAT my retainers (the first time ever I've left them out-stupid stupid stupid). There goes tattoo money and then some....it's costing me $400 to replace the retainers. I guess the coloring won't be done until after Christmas. Sigh....

I must say... all my life I've wanted a tattoo (at least, as long as I can remember). This thread really inspired me and got me thinking about what I really wanted. I thought about what I wanted starting when I was about sixteen.
Then... for my eighteenth birthday, I decided to get it done. Only problem was I didn't know which of my ideas I wanted to get first (I had sooo many). My friend (her birthday was two days after mine) asked me if I would go with her to get hers done on her birthday. I figured I'd go with her to get mine done too, that way we'd be there to hold each other's hand and whatnot. So we went in the day before to make our appointments and while standing there, I realized: "I want an iris." ...

sorry i butchered your post, just for space reasons. WHAT A CUTE STORY! seems like an iris was just the absolutely perfect thing to get! and i have to break, i HATE flower tattoos and don't even bother knowing about them but this one was just soooooo beautiful and made me think about my own grandma. god forbid she leaves me anytime soon, but yeah, it's really sweet! major props.

aww thanks!! I really never liked flower tattoos either (just not my thing... I have nothing against them on others), but it really seemed fitting for what it was for. Thanks so much for the amazing compliment!! It really made my night!

LadyCregga I love that you had a memorial tat to your dad. Your post made me cry because my dad died this summer and it's only now beginning to hit me how much I'm missing him. I'd love to have a memorial tattoo for him, but the trouble is he really, really hated tattoos and never could quite get to grips with the fact I had some Cheesy
