Okay,  Here's my 2nd bag.  There are too many places on the boards in which to put this, so I put it here!  If you need to move it, so be it.

I had this old black bag from 9 years ago:

I tore the patent leather out of it so I could trace a pattern around it and re-use just the frame.  (The patent leather got tossed afterward...it was really beyond re-using and a little stinky, too.)

I fused interfacing to a fulled wool sweater and cut out the pattern

Then I did the same thing with the lining...which was a beautiful Vera Wang Silk Scarf!

Sewed up the sides first, then added the bottom.

Then stuffed the top into the frame.  (I wore TWO blisters on my hand from using the pliers!...I'm a real greenhorn!)

I had pock-marks on the frame from crimping the fabric in, so I borrowed my neighbor's Dremmel Tool and etched curlies all over the frame...and I even signed it!  Now it has reached it's final destination in GraceOblivious's handbag collection!

Later!
RM

well, in other circumstances it'd be shameful, but for the sake of that gorgeous bag, i think it was worth it.   Smiley

Yeah, if I had worn it in the last year I wouldn't have cut it up.  I did at least go on-line and make sure I wasn't chopping up a very expensive scarf just for some lining!   (They go for $10-20 on-line.)

O.Y. was happy to know that I'm sending her little girl a small bag lined with the leftovers.  (Our girls are the same age and will have matching bags with their initials needle felted on the front!)  Although...HER initials are the same as her daughters, so I have a sneaky suspicion that she might 'borrow' it sometimes!!!  Ha-ha!

The purse is even more amazing in the hand!  Workmanship is exquisite, The etching is genius- I am humbled to have received a RecycleMicol designer piece.  I love everything about this purse, and cannot thank RecycleMicol enough.  GraceOblivious

Oooo...that's nice!  I was going to say that I think the pictures do it more justice than seeing it in person...only because when I fused the wool and lining together, it skewed the whole bag out of alignment...just a tad.  I'll know better next time!

Soooooo glad you like it, Dear!!!

I am TOTALLY going to steal Sophia's purse!  Why do you think I named her with my same 1st initial?

I still believe cutting up that gorgeous scarf was a crime against fashion!

It is a lovely bag, though!  And I did think the lining looked perfect (before I knew where it came from!)

Oh OY, here is my perspective.  The Vera Wang silk lining is a fabulous couture hidden secret and gives life to a scarf that might not be worn but will be appreciated and loved in it's new life/s.  It gave birth to two purse linings. LOL. So good to be out of the closet and into the mainstream.  Also the fulled red wool is so well done, it feels like cashmere. - maybe it is.  JMHO  Smiley

Now I wish I would have saved the tag!  I believe it was 100% Wool, though.  But it was a really closely knit, light-weight sweater, so maybe that lends to the softness of it.

That gives me the idea to keep the tag and sew it in an inconspicuous place so the people know the details of the contents.  (Or I can just remember to write it down in a note!)
