Can't cut a straight line to save my life...

So I wanted to get my rat Jimmy Bean a hammock for his cage (he is spoiled and I will explain why in a second).  But after looking at them in the pet store I figured I could easily make him one.  So I took an old teatowel (cuz it was soft) and folded it in to a triangular-esque shape. I then sewed the one edge where your fold occurs.  You can cut off the excess or leave it on for pet to curl up under.  Take 3 keychain rings and sew them into the corners - allowing enough space for ring to turn.  hook into cage and voila instant rat hammock!

(sorry the photos big but if i shrank it, it would get fuzzier)
This is Jimmy Bean in his new hammock.  He is spoiled because he is sick with a respitory ailment.  Rats are very suseptible to respitory infections, diseases, pnuemonia etc.  We already lost Jimmy Bean's brother Alex to it.  So watch your rats breathing and take it to the vet at any sign of funny breathing.  Jimmy is on antibiotics and we are looking into getting him a nebulizer to help him breathe easier - its tough because me and the fiance are still in school and vet trips are expensive. For more information ask your vet or do a search on the internet - there are many, many informative sites out there.  Sorry to rattle on about my rat! Cheesy

So cute!  And I don't even like rats that much!  Sorry he's sick though.

Will he chew on the fabric?

Thats my fiances worry too, the chewing/eating factor - but they sell fabric ones in the pet store and hes been more known to try to drag fabric (blankets, towels) left near his cage into it to curl up in.  And rats are actually very smart so I doubt he'll decide that it is lunch. Cheesy

Aww. That's so cute. I hope your rat gets better. It was nice of you to make him such a cute place to curl up on. I bet he loves it!

Ah, the good old rat hammock.  They really do seem to love them, don't they?  When I've made hammocks for my girls they quite like to chew them to bits within a few weeks.  Jimmy Bean is a gorgeous boy.

awe rats are so cute and loving, I had one as a teen named queenie, she use to sleep on my neck, and had a thing for stealing and hiding any trinket that was sparkly.
