Here are the straps showing the RS and WS.  I scanned the straps but I'm not sure why the photo has a black and white quality to it.  The yarn is really kind of a steel blue.  I'm probably going to use these for the bag.  If I don't like how they look on the purse once it's done, then maybe I'll buy some ready-made handles.  If I were to do this bag again, (which I won't), I'd change it and do simple stockinette st. instead of every second cable.  I think I'd like the overall look better.
Has anyone else started this bag yet?

I just cast on for this project last night. I think I'll follow the pattern pretty exactly so I'm doing the 8 garter stich rows right now. I will post pictures when I get some cabled rows done.

Any tips from Margarita Miss or Knittyknitter?

I've got the body about half done or so... I'll try and remember to post the picture I took last night later. Next time I'll use a chunkier yarn, but I was kind of limited in choices since this is a present, it had to be purple, and I was at A.C. Moore. Plus it has to be done in about a week.

But, I'm actually following the pattern. Ha. Except for doing seed stitch instead of garter, which I do for pretty much everything.

Margarita Miss, the straps looks great. i love the structure of the stitch. .it is like weave or something like that. i will definetely do this stitch for the straps and maybe for the top part.

i wonder though, maybe it is possible to do turkish cast on so i can pretty much dismiss the seaming job on the bottom part. Huh

Thanks tinybits.  I wish I would have used turkish cast on as well.  The less seams to sew up, the better.
Nerfernie and punkcatknitter, I can't wait to see yours too.

yay! photos!

I did more than 8 rows for the top of the bag. However, it is your personal preference. For what the buttons that I used, I thought it would looke better with a lot more rows.

I'm coming home tomorrow, so I'll bring the old sewin' machine back so I can work on the liner finally!!

Is there some kind of ettiquette that suggests how many projects a knitter may have on the go  at one time?  (my husband vehemenly argues ONE)... if not, maybe I'll put this one in the bathroom... heh heh heh...
