Okay, so intarsia doesn't work all that well on circular needles (as the threads confirm), but I went ahead and knit the darn hat for my husband anyway. He can have it on the 21st of September when he buys the trilogy (even with the "creative revisions"  Huh). Many thanks to Melodomi for her great pattern. I think that I carried the colors a bit too much in the last half of the symbol as it kind of scrunched in a little bit . . . I just hope that he likes it.

Jill, that is FABULOUS.
And I am a die-hard Imperial.

Thanks for posting the pic, I feel even better about the Imperial project for my hubby, and feel even more grateful to Melidomi for her wonderful work.  YAY!

Don't get me started on "creative revisions."

There's a link to the pattern thread in the original post up there.

It is so good to see the pattern implemented!  Yay!  I'm sure if I show my boss this thread she'd totally excuse me for goofing off to make the intarsia chart Wink

Awesome hat!

Nice job!  Now I have to make sure that my husband doesn't see it.  I'm still in my "I only want to knit for myself" mood.  Call me selfish, I don't care...

Thanks for the compliments everyone! I almost knit the Imperial symbol on the back so that on his "good" days he could wear it one way and on the "bad" days, he could wear it the other way . . . who am I kidding - he will wear it to shovel snow  Cheesy.

I found this hat pattern in the last issue of Knit It and added the intarsia. It is pretty much a standard hat pattern.

That's neat...how exactly DO you do intarsia in the round? If you could point me to a tutorial if you don't feel like explaining, that would rock!

You don't, at least not well.  The best way to do a hat with a chart like this one is to do it flat and then seam it up the back!

What a full time job will do to knitting and Craftster related posting! I am so glad that school is out for a while.

Yes, it is from the top of the Monument . . . no one has ever asked about it before so it kind of surprised me that anyone would recognize it. Going up with fine, but coming down is when I get vertigo and shaky.

You can do it in the round, but I was really impatient and didn't feel like following the directions. If you do a Google search, or search on Interweave's site, you might be able to find a copy of the Interweave mag with the directions (I am going to say I think it was in the winter 2003 edition). It involves knitting to the design, then knitting back the other way, while knitting in the middle . . . knitting flat then stitching up the back makes more sense.

Funny to see this thread resurface after two years, I finally got around to using the chart myself!  Made this hat for a friend who's a big star wars fan, the insignia was done in Night Lights, glow in the dark yarn!
