My sympathies.
Contact an investigation TV show like Dateline or 20/20. Maybe they could do a story on copyrighting and ripping off small businesses and blow your thief's cover.

That's a really good idea- have you considered something like this? Everyone likes an Underdog story.

Something similar happened to me, actually- my partner and I made, on a tiny scale, screenprinted t-shirts that, after being featured in several national magazines, suddenly turned up mass-produced at a well-known boutique. The store refused to tell us who made the shirts, we couldn't track down any other information about them, and we have exactly no money, so hiring a lawyer was unfortunately out of the question.

So my fingers are crossed for you, Jenny! Take down The Man for indie artists everywhere!!! :-p

I know how stupid this sounds, but if a big co is going to steal your work, couldn't they at least modify it somewhat? It amazes me how someone could boldly (or stupidly) purchase from you and then steal your exact designs. I'm glad you're pursuing this.

i just went to the link she gave and this is what was written:

UPDATE! A lawsuit was filed and Sublime Stitching reached an out-of-court settlement with the manufacturer. However, please read over this info to help me prevent this from happening again, and to inform yourself about copyright protection.

Hey folks! Sorry to neglect this thread.

Yes, I did serve them a cease and desist, and filed a lawsuit. They chose, wisely, to settle out-of-court with me. For legal reasons, I can't disclose any information about the settlement, or who the company was. But, I want to let you know: many, many people told me not to pursue this, nothing would come of it... you can never win in these situations...it happens all the time, so roll over and just take it...WRONG. Learn how to protect your work, be smart and be prepared for crap like this.

Then whomp the bad guys.

WHOMP.

Thanks for all the words of support and encouragement!! It meant a lot to me while I was dealing with this....

This thread can now die a peaceful and well-deserved death.

xoxo,
Jenny

Jenny:  I'm so glad that you didn't listen to all of the naysayers.  You never know unless you try.  It's wonderful to hear that everything turned out for the best!!!!

That is terrible, just be assured that marketing and big business are usually looking in the proverbially rear view mirror. Being talented and creative, will always put you one step ahead of them.

I just bought four of your patterns to further the cause.
