I recently purchased a magnetic seam guide for about 4 dollars at JoAnns. I love it! Its great for beginners or for sewers who have trouble sewing a straight line. All you do is line it up next to your needle and you can guide your fabric along the side. Im not sure how I never knew about it but it makes sewing so easy Smiley

i use a magnet, and stick it to my machine (of course it only works with metal machines) and use that as a guide - - i have also been known to lay tape on my machine and draw a line on the tape and follow that as a guide (for like 3 inches, considering the lines on your actual machine only go to about an inch)

Those are great, if you have a mechanical machine, but it will kill a computerized machine.
