Anyone living in/near richmond should check out Bizarre Market, in the near west end (by VCU)

Chop Suey books hosts an artists fleamarket. Its free to setup a table, and 10% of proceeds are donated to a local charity (past charities have been the Polkadot Art Gallery and Richmond READ center).

These happen every few months or so, the last one was December 6, and I think the next one is in February. Crafty people should definately think about setting up a table, or at least stopping by to see whats for sale!

is it the same girl, anna, putting this together? i tabled my distro at the first one in july, she never sent out any notices about the other ones, i usually ended up finding out about them through fliers at video fan or something.

Yes, Anna (bizarremarket#yahoo.com) is still putting it on. I think there wasn't a very consistent email system until the second bizarre market.

Usually I get an email from Chop Suey about it first, since Ward from Chop Suey is so good about emails. You can get on their email list by asking them at usedandrare#erols.com. It's a very worthwhile email list. The emails aren't too often, but are always friendly and witty, and Ward makes sure to announce all the cool Chop Suey events (like readings, and the Bizarre Market).

FYI this upcoming market is going to benefit the Richmond Peace Education Center. If anyone is interested in selling, you can email that first address I listed and state yr name and what you'll be selling.  Then you show up like maybe an hour in advance the day of the event (which is noon to five on Sat, March 27) and sign in and set up. You have to bring your own tables or racks or whatever you need for display purposes.

The Bizarre Market is hosted by Chop Suey at 1317 W. Cary St (well, actually in the street next to it) in Richmond's Fan district. It's a great time, so if you're not selling and you're nearby, I highly recommend coming out. I and my posse, Franglais, shall be there-- if you see us, say hi.

Do you mean that that is the address where the bizarre market can be found?  My friend and I are planning to go tomorrow, and I want to make sure we are not driving around all morning in search of it.  If you could reply here or pm me, that would be helpful and super awesome.  THANK YOU!

it's usually held on the street beside chop suey, which is randolph street. if you park on cary or any streets near it you should be okay. i believe there is a big mural on the side of the building when you go down cary that says "chop suey books" on a chinese takeout carton.

My roomie and I went, but maybe we got there too early (around 11) because everyone was still basically setting up.  We needed to drive down to Blacksburg, so we couldn't stick around to see if things would pick up.  It looked like it would have been lovely and at least now I know where it is.  Did you get a good crowd?Keep us posted on when another one rolls around.

Yeah the event is from noon to five. The next one is in June. I gave my flyer away because I knew I'd hear more about it before too long, so I can't remember the date. But I'll keep you posted.
