Swap name: Advent Calendar Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: ptarmic wumpus
Sign-up date range: Sept 5 - Sept 30 2006
Date to send item by: Oct 31 2006

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): 25

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? NO, but due to time constraints, efforts will be made to group participants by region.

All ages allowed? Or 18+? All ages, but under 18's should check with their guardians to be sure that their particpation is ok

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: limited to 25 people

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap:

This swap is for advent calendars for the holiday season. These can be the traditional Christmas advent calendar, or for an alternate holiday or celebration if desired.  Each swapper will send one item, an advent calendar, to their partner.

There are many different styles of advent calendars; some made of paper, some of fabric, some of other materials; some contain small presents or toys while others reveal a picture for each day. You may choose any type of advent calendar, although you should check with your swap partner before sending food items.

Swap packages must be received by your partner by Nov 30 in order for the advent calendars to be put to full use. This swap has a lengthy crafting time and a full month between the ship date and December 1, in the hopes of on-time receipt of packages. Because of the time constraint, there will be relatively little grace period for late sending before I find swap angels and give negative feedback to late swappers. Please consider your schedule carefully and only sign up if you are sure that you can finish your package and ship by Oct 31!  There is a looong signup period too allow feedback to clear out and to give you time to think about your schedule and plan ahead. To avoid customs holdups and slow shipping, I will make every effort to pair swappers regionally, especially for southern hemisphere craftsers.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap: Advent Calendar Swap
Craftster username:

Your real name:

Any other pertinent information that we should know?

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

What an awesome idea!  I love advent calendars of all types and have even made a paper one.  I'll try to "elevate my game" for this swap!  I'll sign up this week.  Thanks for organizing!

Ooohh! This looks so cool! I think I would have a ball making one of those and the finding all the tiny little goodies to go inside!!

Some of the calenders that you have links to are absolutely adorable!
Hmm I'll really have to think about this one.

Do you think we could brainstorm a list of tiny little goodies to fit in the little pockets/matchboxes/bottle caps ?

I will be out of state until February. I may be able to check emails periodically so if you need me, it would be more timely to email me. Thanks. ANY OWED SWAP PACKAGES WILL GO OUT BEFORE I LEAVE.

I've been trying to think of this, too!  there are so many little trinkets at places like Michael's...fun foam things to small wooden items that could be painted.  I also thought of small pieces of paper with something written (almost fortune cookie size/format!).  Oops...don't want to give away too much of the surprise...

I have so many ideas for the format (2D vs. 3D), then I've been biting my nails about how I'll mail it (esp if it's a multi-part, 3D creation!).  I can't wait to get some quiet time to start really thinking about this one.

What about beads?  I mean, you could do an advent bracelet or something, with a lovely, special bead in each little pocket, and a centerpiece in Christmas Eve.  Or you could do the traditional; little tiny chocolates.  (You can get little tiny chocolate molds at the craft stores, and a melted hershey's or hershey's dark would be easy.)  Or you could do like a Borrowers theme (I'm more into the books than the movie, but yeah...) and do things like little buttons, bits of string, tiny doll clothes, scraps of ribbon...  In a matchbook, you could even fit a larger piece of paper, folded up, and put a "page" of a "book" in each day, maybe with a holiday story on it.
