I bought these 3 chairs from the thrift store for $14, then bought 3 gray t-shirts with numbers on the back for about $4.

These aren't done, but I just joined craftster and am super-excited about this project. I was originally planning on having all the numbers look the same, but gray tees with sports numbers are suprisingly hard to find at thrift stores, and I like the eclectic effect of having them all different.






First, I removed the seats with a screwdriver. Then, I sanded chairs with rough-grain sandpaper, applied 2 coats of primer and 1 (so far) of red paint. I cut the tees down the front and from collar to sleeves, stretched them over the seats, and nailed them on. I hammered the nails about halfway in and then hammered them to the side to prevent ripping. I reinforced with duct tape because I didn't want it to be obvious from the front where the nails were. Once the paint is done, I'll screw the seats back on.

I really, really love those chairs!!  I'm moving in a few weeks & you've inspired me to hunt down some chairs to re-vamp.  I really like the idea of using t-shirts on the cushions.

I really, really love those chairs!!  I'm moving in a few weeks & you've inspired me to hunt down some chairs to re-vamp.  I really like the idea of using t-shirts on the cushions.

i would like to see how a similar project turns out in a pastel blue. my boyfriend talked me into red, and it limited my t-shirt choices. good luck!
