ok, so I just got back for Egypt (yesterday!), where I fell in love with the bellydance, so I think this swap is fate!

(ps. according to my husband, my attempt at bellydancing looks like I'm doing robotics.  Undecided   I was trying to be sexy)

I made a little FYI for folks in case they found the styles question daunting.  Again, don't be shy if you're not a dancer and would like to join for fun:)

Heres a little clarification on bellydance styles for folks.
American Tribal (or ATS for American Tribal Style)   has a basis in middle eastern dance but incorporates a montage of different elements from various gypsy tribes throughout North Africa, the Middle East, and India. Tribal dance is an improvisational style done as a group by learning various groups of moves and following the group with subtle cues.  Costuming is more earthy and often more modest than many other forms.  Full circle skirts are usually worn with pantaloons covering all of the legs as in gypsy style.  Coin bra tops or shell tops are common, but usually worn over a more covering shirt.
Egyptian (or Egyptian Oriental or Raks Sharki) is the style you would find a dancer in Cairo doing. It is a usually solo dance often painstakingly choreographed to reflect the dancers interpretation of the music.  Like cabaret, the costuming is very much a show business style, with the dancer covered in beads, sequins, and other assorted sparklies.
Cabaret (sometimes American Restaurant Style) is the type of bellydancing you would find in Vegas. The look is often very glamorous and flashy, with high heels, sequins, beads, and glittery fabrics, but sometimes dancers who do this style select a more earthy look such as a coin bra/belt set teamed with a skirt made of natural fibers. This style is a combination, influenced by dances in Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon, Armenia, North Africa, Persia, other Middle Eastern countries, and Hollywood.
Fusion Any combination of other dance styles with bellydance can fall under this grouping.  Jazz, African, Modern whatever dances you decide to fuse with your bellydance moves.  A newish term for Tribal/Cabaret dancers is tribaret.  Costuming is as variant as the style.

I'm ridiculously excited about this swap... we'll have to do another round of bellydance swap, if our crafty bellydancers aren't burned out on it.

I've got the little things all finished, for my partner and for my "third" (we have the 3 way, and decided to mail a little something to our thirds, too). Now I'm working on the bigger project, which I'm pretty proud of. :-)
